The Masai Mara is Kenya's premier wildlife destination, home to the Big Five, the Great Migration, and some of the most concentrated game viewing on Earth. Beyond the wildlife, it's a landscape that changes how you see the world — vast, ancient, and unhurried. We'll take you to the quieter corners where the land still feels untouched, where your guide knows the lions by name, and where dinner is served under a sky you forgot existed.

Common questions about the Mara

When is the best time to visit the Masai Mara?

The Mara rewards travellers year-round, but two windows stand out. July through October is migration season, when over a million wildebeest cross the Mara River — dramatic, crowded, and unforgettable. January and February offer beautiful light, fewer visitors, and excellent big cat viewing. Even the green season (March–May) has its rewards: lush landscapes, newborn animals, and dramatically lower rates. We'll match your timing to what you most want to see.

Three nights is the practical minimum — enough for full days of game viewing without feeling rushed. Four to five nights is the sweet spot for most travellers, allowing time for both Mara Triangle and the eastern reserves, plus a balloon safari or cultural visit. Less than three feels rushed; more than six and you'll want variety, which is where pairing with Amboseli or Diani works beautifully.

They're part of the same ecosystem — the wildebeest migrate between them annually. The Mara is Kenya's portion: smaller, more concentrated wildlife, and more flexible in terms of off-road driving and night drives in the conservancies. The Serengeti is vast and Tanzanian. For first-time safari, the Mara offers more intimate encounters and easier logistics. For experienced safari travellers wanting scale, the Serengeti has its own magic. Both can be combined.

Yes — and we recommend it. The classic Wenasi itinerary pairs four nights in the Mara with three to four nights in Diani Coast. The contrast is the experience: from dust and predators to white sand and Swahili food. Direct flights from the Mara airstrips to Diani take roughly two hours, so you trade landscapes without losing a day to travel.

For most travellers, yes — but only once. It's an early start (you launch at sunrise), and the experience includes a champagne breakfast in the bush after landing. The view of the Mara from above is genuinely once-in-a-lifetime. We typically recommend booking it for the second or third morning of your stay so you've already had ground-level game drives for context.

All Wenasi safaris use private 4x4 vehicles with pop-up roofs and expert driver-guides. You won't be sharing with other guests unless you specifically request a shared vehicle. The 4x4 isn't optional — Mara terrain demands it, especially after rain.
