Diani Coast

Diani Beach sits on Kenya's south coast, regularly ranked among Africa's most beautiful beaches — twenty-five kilometres of white sand, palm trees, and turquoise water. But Diani is more than the beach. It's Swahili architecture that tells centuries of stories. Coastal food that blends African, Arab, Indian, and Portuguese influences. And the perfect exhale after the dust of safari. Most of our travellers come for three nights and leave wanting five.

Common questions about Diani

How does Diani compare to Zanzibar?

Both are stunning Indian Ocean beaches with Swahili heritage, but they feel different. Diani is more compact, easier to access from Kenyan safari (45-minute flight from Nairobi), and has stronger marine biodiversity at Kisite Park. Zanzibar has more developed historical tourism (Stone Town) and slightly more international glamour. For a Kenya-focused trip, Diani is the natural fit. For a longer Indian Ocean exploration, both can be combined.

December through March is the warm, dry, peak season — perfect weather, busiest beaches, highest rates. June through October is also excellent: cooler, fewer crowds, and beautiful for water sports. Avoid April, May, and November when the long and short rains can affect visibility for snorkelling and produce sometimes-rough seas.

Yes. Diani is one of Kenya's most established tourism destinations and the area around the beach is well-monitored and low-risk. Standard travel sense applies — don't leave valuables on the beach, use registered taxis, and follow your hotel's local advice. We work with established beachfront properties and our team is on call throughout your stay.

The easiest route is light aircraft. From the Mara or Amboseli airstrips, direct flights to Ukunda (Diani's airport) take roughly two hours. From Nairobi, it's a 45-minute flight. Driving from Nairobi takes seven to nine hours and we generally don't recommend it unless you specifically want a road trip — the air route is dramatically more time-efficient.

Plenty. Day trips to Mombasa Old Town and Fort Jesus for centuries of Swahili history. Snorkelling and dolphin tours at Kisite Marine Park. Kite surfing season (June–September) on Diani's south end. Wasini Island for fresh seafood lunches. Shimba Hills for forest walks and elephants — yes, you can do safari from Diani. We can build any combination into your stay.

“After five days in the Mara, Diani was exactly what we needed. The seafood, the warmth of the people, the colour of that water — we extended by two nights.”
