Solio is a private 17,500-acre conservancy with one of the highest concentrations of both black and white rhinos in East Africa. Because the rhinos are protected and well-monitored, you can approach them on game drives, walks, and even on horseback in ways that simply aren't possible in larger public reserves. Sightings are virtually guaranteed.
One or two nights is the sweet spot. Solio is a focused experience — rhinos, walking safaris, exclusive accommodation, peaceful highlands. After two nights you'll have seen what makes it special and be ready for variety. It pairs especially well as a first stop after landing in Nairobi (easy 3.5-hour drive) before flying to the Mara or Samburu.
Solio is at the higher end of Kenya safari pricing because of the exclusivity and conservation work it supports. For travellers seeking guaranteed rhino encounters in an intimate setting, it's exceptional value. For travellers prioritising volume of wildlife sightings, the Mara may offer more per dollar. Many of our guests use Solio as a special-occasion bookend to a wider safari rather than the main destination.
Yes — and it's one of the better destinations for families with children old enough to appreciate wildlife (typically 8+). The horse riding, walking safaris, and proximity of rhinos create memorable experiences. Some Solio properties have specific minimum age policies, which we'll advise on based on your family.
